About us

Le chéile sa teanga - Together in the language

The McCracken Cultural Society was set up in the New Lodge area of the Antrim Road in the year 2000 with the broad aims to promote the Irish language, history, music, drama and dance irrespective of creed, class, background or ability. This is what it’s all about; bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds to North Belfast and allowing them to immerse themselves in this enriching environment of language, culture, hospitality and entertainment.

The McCracken Cultural Society organises a wide range of events throughout the year.  Amongst the main attractions are weekly Irish language classes at every level, social events throughout the year, a week long summer school, events during the Irish language week in March, intensive language course in the autumn, primary school scheme and the Gold and Silver Fáinne programme. In addition, we provide services which help local businesses to promote and raise the profile of the Irish language in North Belfast through a bilingual signage project. The society also co-operate with other local community groups in the area and throughout Belfast to promote Irish language activities.

If you require more information about classes, events or activities of the McCracken Cultural Society, please contact our Irish language Development Officer, Niall Mathews.
