A major advantage of the scheme is that 50% funding is provided to businesses which use a bilingual version or a full Irish-language version of the enterprise’s name/business type or funding towards other materials such as menus, stationary, packaging, marketing materials etc.
Not only does the scheme enhance the visibility of Irish, it can attract tourists to the area who have a keen interest in language and culture. By promoting the use of bilingual signage, the scheme can also boost business performance by gaining the goodwill and attention of young children, adult learners, parents and relatives interested and favourably disposed towards Irish.
The McCracken Cultural Society hope that more local businesses will come on board and avail of this ongoing signage scheme in the coming year. We will also provide free advice and a translation service to the local North Belfast business community to assist them in the incorporation of the Irish language in their daily business.
Recently, six shops in the New Lodge and Antrim road area have benefited from the scheme offered by Foras na Gaeilge and implemented by the North Belfast Irish language organisation, Cumann Cultúrtha Mhic Reachtain (McCracken Cultural Society) located on the Antrim Road.
